SOMANZ – so good we named it twice! In 2004 a new society called ANZSOM (Australian and New Zealand Society of Obstetric Medicine) was formed after the amalgamation of ASSHP (Australasian Society for the Study of Hypertension in Pregnancy) and OMGA (the Obstetric Medicine Group of Australasia).
Due to the similarity of the name to other societies it was necessary to rename the organisation SOMANZ – the Society of Obstetric Medicine of Australia and New Zealand. All previous members of ASSHP and OMGA became automatic members of the newly formed Society and subscription notices have been sent inviting them to renew their membership.
Membership of SOMANZ is open to any person who is engaged in research or in practice of the broad field of hypertension in pregnancy or obstetric medicine, or who has demonstrated particular interest in this area.
New members are always welcome and can join online through the Society website. Please email Ms Suzie Neylon, Executive Officer, SOMANZ on firstname.lastname@example.org if you need further assistance or telephone (+61) 2 8247 6298. Following the call for nominations and a ballot, the first Council of SOMANZ was formed with most states and territories of Australia and New Zealand represented.
